Software Enginner at Microsoft
Yes, some hands-on experience in cloud environments is recommended. However, if you’re newer to cloud, you can start with foundational courses like CompTIA Cloud+ or AWS Cloud Practitioner before progressing to CCSP.
CCSP is vendor-neutral, meaning it applies to all cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), while AWS or Azure certifications focus on specific platforms. CCSP is best for professionals aiming at governance, architecture, and policy-level roles.
To become fully certified, you need at least 5 years of cumulative, paid work experience, including 3 years in information security and 1 year in one or more of the CCSP domains. If you lack the experience, you can become an Associate of (ISC)² after passing the exam and gain experience later.
The CCSP exam is based on 6 domains:
Cloud Concepts, Architecture, and Design
Cloud Data Security
Cloud Platform and Infrastructure Security
Cloud Application Security
Cloud Security Operations
Legal, Risk, and Compliance
The exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 4 hours. A passing score is 700 out of 1000.
To maintain your CCSP, you need to earn and submit 90 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits over a 3-year cycle and pay an annual maintenance fee to (ISC)².
